Important Dates:
Nov. 11: Coffee with the principal
Nov. 14: Donuts for Dads
Nov. 25: Noon dismissal - travel safely or make that final trip to the grocery store for all your Thanksgiving goodies!
Nov. 26-30: Thanksgiving Holiday Break
This Week's Objectives:
Week 4 of LEAD 21 is reserved as a "Review Week" of the previous unit. We are going to review the skills we've picked up so far, but will be doing it through another vehicle: TURKEYS! All LEAD 21 skills will be incorporated.
Reading:
Theme Question: How is science a part of our community?
Focus Question: How does science help us get around in our community?
Inquiry Question: How is nature a part of Arrowhead's Community?
- Last week we made conjectures about how Arrowhead incorporates nature into it's community. Then we took a nature walk around our grounds, up to the butterfly garden, and to the duck pond at St. John's. Each group had an iPad and took several pictures to help answer the question.
-This week, we will caption the photos, turn them into a picture book, and share our findings! Isn't inquiry fun?
Skills: Reading to find information (close reading), using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words, finding the main idea and details.
Spelling: "ar" like in car (see list to the right)
Writing:
Using a graphic organizer to prewrite. Close reading for research. Paraphrasing.
Math:
Addition and subtraction strategies: doubles plus and minus one (for example: I know 6+6=12, so I know 6+7=13, and 6+5=11). Also, we will work with the "part-part-whole" model of fact families.
Science/Social Studies:
We will focus on America's veterans on Monday, when we attend the 4th and 5th grade music program. We will also be learning about turkeys in science.
