I will try to post updates on Sunday night so that you can see our skills and objectives for the coming week. If anything extra comes up, I will post those updates as needed. As always, thanks for checking in!
This Week's Objectives:
Reading:
Spelling: We will be reviewing sight words and common patterns as we learn procedures for whiteboard spelling and set up center routines.
Strategies: We will be reading some of my FAVORITE books (A Bad Case of Stripes and No David by David Shannon and If You Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff) to learn about Cause and Effect, story structure, and Inferences.
Other: Until we start LEAD 21, we will be building background knowledge and anchors to connect our new learning to old. I will begin administering DRA (reading level) tests, and benchmark placement tests when I see the kids have settled in.
Math:
Number Talks: We will be sharing strategies and working on number sense as we talk about problem solving. This week we are focusing on making tens.
Skills: We will be working hard on basic strategies like making ten this week.
Writing:
I will be checking out the kiddo's writing through informal pieces this week, and will introduce a few procedures for Writer's Workshop and Centers
Science/Social Studies:
We are focusing on our rules and procedures this year - including what makes a good classmate/citizen and how we can create a positive classroom environment.
