Special Request
Next week we will be visiting the Billings Food Bank. There are many reasons second grade teachers chose this for our field trip. First, it helps our students answer our Focus Question in LEAD 21: How do communities meet people's needs? But more importantly, we want our students to know and understand what the holidays are really about. We know that our kids are lucky to come to school loved, fed, supported, and safe. We are so grateful for that. On the other hand though, many of our kids don't realize what so many children in our district go through to get a meal. We have over 300 students in school district two who identify as homeless. Too often, our kids ideas of homelessness come from the people they see downtown or on corners, asking for handouts. We want our kids to develop a sense of empathy and caring for the people who are working so hard to make ends meet, or who have come upon bad luck and need a little help this season. Please talk to your children about the true spirit of Christmas. Arrowhead is well-known for its generous spirit, and I know so much of that comes from your conversations at home with your children. Thank you for your support!
